My name is Rachel Jackson, and I'm a photographer in Southwest Georgia. I live in a small town - there's not even a stoplight, and across the street from me is a cornfield being harvested as I write. I lived in this area about 20 years ago, and thankfully, a whole lot has stayed much the same. I am married now and have a large family of seven. Yes, there are seven of us, not including the animals and little bit of gardening we dabble in. It hasn't always been easy, but it's always been a joy.
I got into photography about 13 years ago, mostly piddling, and just having fun. But the thing is I really, really, really enjoyed it. And so did my friends and family. So much so that when my cousin got married, they used some of the photos I took for greeting cards and the like. It was neat to see and experience, and so I bought a DSLR. I've since gotten another and continue to learn what has become my craft.
I am not going to lie, weddings are my favorite. I love to capture the love shared between the Bride and the Groom, the excitement the two families feel, all the splendid details that took months and months to bring together, and the beauty of the day. I love capturing all the candid moments of life that happen on such a momentous day.
But I love capturing the raw beauty that nature has to offer too, especially in the Spring. I'm a sucker for photographing flowers, which might be partly why I love photographing weddings so much.
I also love photographing little ones when they are super excited for their birthday, or other such occasion. Nothing really makes me laugh like photographing a child ripping through their presents or blowing up a balloon.
But most of all, I love encouraging people with my photography. Perhaps, with the photos I get to take, someone sees something about themselves or notices something about the world that they never would have otherwise, that makes them stand in awe of who they are and what they have to offer. This is the beauty of being a photographer. Just maybe something that caught my eye, and took my breath away can do the same for you. I hope that it causes you to appreciate the life you've been given and do something extraordinary with your time and your talents. I'm hoping it urges you fan the flame of your soul to keep up the good work and not fail to put in the effort to do the things you were made to do.
